Getting Started in Quilting
What is quilting? Quilting is the process of sewing two or more layers of fabric together to make a thicker padded material, usually to create a quilt or quilted garment. Typically quilting is done with three layers: the top fabric or quilt top, batting or insulating material and backing material, but many different styles are adopted.
If you are a starting quilter it is best to stick to the less complex patterns. As you end up being extra skilled, you will never run out of new patterns to try.
Some examples of basic patterns make use of squares. A 4 Patch uses four squares of fabric stitched to make one block. A Nine Patch makes use of 9 small squares making up one block. Different prints as well as shades can be combined and matched to develop different appearances with these basic blocks. A Dual Nine Patch is composed of nine 4-inch squares. The center square is split into nine 1 1/3 inch squares. Commonly the big squares are reduced from 4 dark and also 4 light fabrics, while the tiny squares are cut from 4 light and 5 tool tinted fabrics. Shade combination might be differed to create various patterns.
The Churn Dashboard is another very easy pattern. This block utilizes 3 different fabrics-2 layouts and also one history textile. Variations of this pattern include the Grecian Design, the Greek Cross and the Wrench. There are three major pattern items: a 4 inch square, a 2×4 inch rectangle and also a big triangle.
